When we first started Metal For Good in 2022, it came from a simple idea – that the rock, metal and alternative community, with its strong sense of connection and belonging, could be a force for positive change.

Three years on, we’ve seen that idea develop into something tangible, shaped by the collective effort of fans, artists, partners and supporters. Today, we’re sharing our first ever Impact Report (2022–2025), which reflects both what has been achieved so far and our hopes for the future.

What has been achieved so far

Since launching, we have raised over £121,000 and funded 22 grassroots projects across the UK, awarding more than £31,000 in grants to organisations that use music to support mental health, help young people build confidence and create opportunities, and provide space for voices that are too often underrepresented.

Behind these figures are projects and individuals who are using music in practical ways to support people’s wellbeing, sense of identity and connection to others.

Why this work matters

The need for this work remains clear. Access to music and creative opportunities is inconsistent, many people still struggle with their mental health, and structural inequalities continue to create an unequal playing field.

We believe music can play an important role in addressing these challenges, and the projects we have supported demonstrate the different ways this can happen in practice.

A community-led approach

Everything in this report has been made possible through the community. Unlike many other funders, we do not have a large endowment or a single major donor. Instead, funding has been generated collectively through events, partnerships, merch and campaigns, with the community playing an active role in shaping how that funding is distributed.

This approach reflects the values that sit at the heart of the scene – togetherness, inclusivity and a willingness to support one another.

Looking ahead

As we look forward, we expect to have supported more than 35 projects by the end of this year, distributing well over £50,000 in funding. This growth reflects both increasing demand for this kind of support and the continued commitment of the community to making it happen.

This report represents an important milestone, but it is also part of a longer journey. Everything within it has been made possible through the collective effort of the community, and we are looking forward to building on this together.
